Media development to enrich vocabularies since the early age is the inspiration for English Education students to share their ideas in the Student Creativity program held by the Ministry of Education (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa bidang Karsacipta, or PKM-KC).

Mega Ayu Wulandari (English Education Class of 2013), Aji Budi Rinekso (English Education Class of 2013), Budi Ayu Noviasari (English Education Class of 2013), Septi Rohni Undari (Counseling Class of 2012) and Setia Budi Nugroho (Electrical Engineering Education Class of 2012) developed Smart Clock Vocabulary, the alarm clock with the sound of English vocabularies as the ringtone.

Mega Ayu Wulandari, the chair, explained that the clock was special learning media for children. The technical design of the clock is the electrical tool inside a doll. “Because vocabulary is the important part in English learning, I use media to learn about it in the interesting form, it is a doll, “ Mega said.

The man behind the installation of Smart Clock Vocabulary, Setia Budi Nugroho, explained about the preparation to create the media. The step involved the mechanism planning, prototype design in the form of software and hardware, the process of recording from the sound of English native speakers, programming and the fit and proper test.

Specifically, Setia explained that the process involved the installation of primary components namely PCB (Printed Circuit Board) in the form of MP3 Player and ATMega. ATMega was the chip of Smart Clock Vocabulary. As the source of energy, the doll was played by using Li-Po battery. The machine mechanism of the doll is alarm system and the setting of vocabulary. Afterwards, the alarm will make a sound of five vocabularies. The vocabularies are set for frequent plays.
