20th Annual CamTESOL Conference on English Language Teaching

On February 23-25, 2024, the 20th CamTESOL Conference was held at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. CamTESOL, recognized as an accomplished professional organization, collaborates with IDP Education and local ELT institutions in Cambodia, supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport. Since 2005, they have successfully organized an annual international conference.

In the midst of this prestigious event, CamTESOL invited representatives from all its affiliates to participate as keynote speakers. One of their significant affiliates is TEFLIN, the Association for the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia.

Dr. Ed. Dyah Setyowati Ciptaningrum, a lecturer from the English Language Education Program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), represented TEFLIN at the conference. In addition to introducing TEFLIN to the participants, Dr. Dyah also presented a paper titled "Incorporating Character in English Learning Materials for Generation Z in the Indonesian Context."

In her research, Dr. Dyah involved students and teachers from various high schools in Yogyakarta. By adopting a project-based approach, she successfully developed learning materials expected to enhance the understanding of content, skills, and English language character for Generation Z in Yogyakarta.

The evaluation results of the materials she developed showed a high suitability for use by today's young generation. The presence of Dr. Dyah and her presentation at the 20th CamTESOL Conference highlighted that adapting English language teaching materials with appropriate methods can significantly support the learning process in today's digital era.
