International Community Service Program with Aichi University of Education (AUE)

On March 18, 2024, the English Language Education Program, Faculty of Languages, Arts, and Culture (FBSB) at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta successfully accompanied students from Aichi University of Education (AUE), Japan in conducting a School Visit to SMAN 8 Yogyakarta. This activity is part of the International Community Service Program conducted by FBSB with AUE.

During this School Visit, workshops and presentations on traditional Japanese musical instruments and culture led by AUE students were conducted smoothly and provided valuable insights to more than 50 students who participated.

One of the most interesting moments of the event was when the students of SMAN 8 Yogyakarta learned to create Japanese calligraphy. Guided by AUE students, they quickly grasped the techniques and aesthetics of Japanese writing art. Furthermore, many students from SMAN 8 Yogyakarta were already fluent in communicating in Japanese. The enthusiasm of the students in learning and singing traditional Japanese songs taught also created an atmosphere full of joy and enthusiasm.

This activity was not just a cultural exchange but also served as a bridge connecting two countries through understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity. The participants not only gained new knowledge but also increased tolerance and international cooperation.

Moreover, participants of the event expressed that this visit provided them with new insights into Japanese culture and enriched their learning experience at school. The spirit and enthusiasm of the students and AUE students in sharing their knowledge and cultural experiences added value to this activity.

Through workshops, presentations, and interactions between students, teachers, and students, a strong bond has been formed in understanding and appreciating cultural diversity. It is hoped that international cooperation between the English Language Education Program of FBSB UNY and AUE will continue to develop and inspire more beneficial cultural exchanges in the future.
