VERONICA, THE FACULTY’S DELEGATE FOR GRISTUF IN GERMANY

FBS-Karangmalang Veronica Christamia Juniarmi does the faculty proud. This fifth semester student of English Language Education Study Program was chosen as the only UNY delegate who will attend the International Student Conference in Germany along with 35 other delegates from all over Indonesia this year. Veronica, her nickname, will meet 220 selected participants from around the world in Greifswald University. This conference is organized by Greifswald University in a series of the events named "Greifswald International Student Festival (Gristuf)". The conference, which is held every two years, aims to unite young people around the world to share and discuss how to solve problems that become international concerns, such as social issues, policy impact, global change, and science and ethnicity. Gristuf has been held five times by Greifswald University involving world-renowned universities. Veronica was selected as one of the students who joined the festival because of her essay entitled “One World One Culture” which she sent to the organizer at the end of December 2009. In her essay, which relates to the theme of Global Change, Veronica talks about global warming in Indonesia by bringing the Balinese’ cultural symbols and beliefs as a solution. He also considers the power of Balinese natural myths that reflect the beauty of the harmonious relationship between humans and nature. She had the opportunity to speak in front of a world forum about his ideas related to his essay and at the same time to promote Indonesian culture. Apart from that event, she will also perform the local arts at this prestigious festival and will also bring the name of UNY to the world. Her effort to introduce UNY is nothing but an opportunity for the university to have a wider relation with the international community. It is expected that UNY can have cooperation with Greifswald University. Of course, this effort supports the UNY mission, that is planning to become a World Class University. Veronica also hopes that with her involvement in this event, she can develop her writing skills and knowledge in the field which she is interested in: Culture. Regarding her preparation, Veronica is busy looking for sponsors to pave her way to Germany. She genuinely needs support from the department, the dean, and the university for the success of this noble mission.
