A STUDENT OF ENGLISH EDUCATION WON THE NATIONAL COMPETITION OF SCIENTIFIC WRITING AT UNIVERSITAS NEGERI SEMARANG

FBS-Karangmalang Okta Lesagia, a student of English Education Deparment of Class 2014 won the national student competition of scientific writing 2016 at Universitas Negeri Semarang (13-15/8). In the annual event, Okta and other team members from UNY was declared as the second runner up.

The team from UNY consisted of three students and a lecturer. They are Okta Lesagia (English Education Class of 2014), Sayidatul Maslahah ( Special Education Class of 2014), dan Muhammad Lutfil Hakim (The Mechatronics Engineering Education Class of 2014) with the assistance of  Aini Mahabbati, S.Pd. M.A, a lecturer from Special Education Department, UNY.

UNY presented the Pop-up inclusive book as the learning media about puppets for Elementary students. It was a pride to win in the competition against other public universities such as Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Universitas Diponegoro, Universitas Bangka Belitung, Universitas Riau, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and Institut Pertanian Bogor.

Based on the interview with teachers in the inclusive elementary schools, Inclusive-based learning media is recently difficult to find. The Pop-up learning media is the development program to provide the media focusing on students’ character education and local culture understanding.

As the second runner up, UNY was in one frame with the team of ITB as the champion, and Universitas Sebelas Maret as the first runner up. The other appreciations in one frame were also dedicated for the team of Universitas Diponegoro and Universitas Negeri Semarang.
