ENGLISH EDUCATION PROGRAM PPM TEAM HOLDS WORKSHOP ON HIGHER ORDER THINKING SKILL (HOTS) INTREGATION FOR SMP TEACHERS IN SLEMAN DISTRICT

FBS-Karangmalang The team of social Service Program of English Education held the workshop on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) Integration in Text and Task Adaption on August 21-22, 2017 at Faculty of Languages and Arts, UNY. The workshop was aimed at discussing the integration of HOTS in the development of English teaching materials.

HOTS as the core of the 2013 Indonesian Curriculum is the current significant competence which students need to develop. The competence encompasses problem-solving skills, critical thinking, creativity, argumentative skills and decision making skills. To develop students’ skills, the teachers need to develop and implement HOTS into their teaching.

The workshop was opened by the chairwoman of the program, Ella Wulandari, M.A. Afterwards, the first day of the workshop was to discuss about some topics: learning and materials based on the 2013 Curriculum, HOTS-based materials development and evaluation and examples of HOTS-based tasks. The workshop materials were presented by the experts from English Education Study program, namely Joko Priyana, Ph.D., Suharso, M. pd., Ashadi, Ph.D, Ella Wulandari, M. A., and Sari Hidayati, M.A.

At the second day, the participants were involved to practice in group works to adapt texts and tasks as the English HOTS-based materials in the framework of the 2013 Curriculum. At the end, the participants exhibited the HOTS-based teaching draft as the ready-to-go materials for Junior High Schools.
