EDSA SPEECH AND WRITING COMPETITION: INCREASING INTEREST IN READING AND WRITING FOR A BETTER LIFE

FBS-Karangmalang The EDSA (English Department Student Association) held a speaking and writing competition on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Seminar Room of the Music and Dance Laboratory, FBS UNY. This year's competition carries the theme "Harnessing Literacy for a Better Society". This activity is attended by students and high school students throughout Java.

The lack of interest in reading by the Indonesian people is one of the reasons for holding this event. Therefore, EDSA felt the need to hold this activity. By participating in speaking and writing competitions, the students can broaden their knowledge. Apart from university students, this event is also attended by students from high school aiming to increase confidence in public speaking.

This activity is held from morning to evening. This event is supported by judges who are very experienced in speaking and writing. This competition competes for trophies from the Rector of UNY and also from the Faculty of Language and Arts UNY.

With this activity, there is a great hope for the growth of public awareness, especially among university students and high school students to be more active in reading and dare to speak in public. For those of you who haven't had the chance to take part in this year's event, don't hesitate to try because there is still another chance at the upcoming SWC (Speech and Writing Competition).
