BAGADOS DE LOS PENCOS” PACKED IN RELUNG LABORATORY PERFORMANCE

FBS-Karangmalang A strange incident shakes a mental hospital. All the patients at the hospital flocked to carry stretch cloths inscribed with petitions with incoherent alphabets. Groups of patients want to protest their doctors who are called extortion bandits, also have an authoritarian nature. The doctor is none other than Rendra and the mantri Azwar. It is an unusual case when the crazy people can demonstrate to demand equal rights for them. As a result, Dr. Rendra and Mantri Azwar were afraid of it. When the group of crazy patients paraded by Linus Suryadi, Mayon Edi Sutrisno, Emha Ainun Najisun and Dedot Muradin demanded their rights, they loudly and unitedly shouted, "Long live Los Bagados De Los Pencos!"

Scenes from the script of Los Bagados De Los Pencos by W.S. The Rendra was performed by the Relung theater on Friday (29/5) night. Held on the Tejokusumo Dance Stage, FBS UNY, the one-hour play drew the attention of hundreds of spectators, both from inside and outside UNY. The play from a script that is said to be a critique of the New Order era was directed by Zaima Bunga Wijayanti. Zaima said this performance is the premiere for new members of the Relung theater. All of the cast involved in this performance were actually students of the 2014 English study program, including David, Mustofa, Ayi, Cing, Ifah, Futri, Ria and Asla.

The hallmark of Relung Laboratory is acting with English dialogue. However, this time Relung tried to present a stage with an original story in Indonesian. This is certainly not without reason. Bunga as the director explained that he wanted to highlight the actor side. “This laboratory is like the practice of theory we’ve already got from Relung, so I want new players to focus on developing their acting first. Playing a crazy person in the theater is definitely a challenge. The point is that they are more free to improvise when the script is in Indonesian,” she explained.

The Los Bagados De Los Pencos script literally means prosperity and peace in Portuguese, Bunga said, "This manuscript is interesting, rarely does a text refer to socio-political criticism with a mental hospital setting."

Kharisma Wahyu Pradana as the person in charge of the event also added, "This is what makes it different from previous years, it is unique."

Relung Laboratory is the culmination of a series of events at the EDSArt Festival, one of the Art and Literature division programs of the English Student Association EDSA (English Department Student Association). Previously, EDSA has also successfully organized blood donors, performed An Eve With EDSAcoustic and discussed the film Emac Flicks. This year is the third time this festival has been held.

Dr. Kun Setyaning Astuti, M.Pd. as the Vice Dean III of Languages and Arts Faculty and Drs. Samsul Maarif, M.A. as the head of the English Education Department were also present at the stage. In his remarks, Kun congratulated the entire committee for holding this stage. “On behalf of the faculty, I thank you. Keep exploring theatre, music, and other arts,” she said. (Muvida Aulia/HumasFBS
